How do I know whether this is the right singing teacher for dd?

I have a (slightly formidable sounding) Russian lady coming over next week to do some work with dd on the piano and so on, see whether she should go down the singing/piano track or not. I'm sure she is an excellent teacher from her background and all I've heard but I don't know if she'll be the right teacher for dd. How do I judge that?

Unfortunately I can't sing myself.

No advice personally, but is there a teacher at school you could ask about this?

A lot of it is about personality and whether they get on.

How old is your dd.

In a first consultation lesson I would be looking to see that my dd has done some preliminary work on posture, breathing and vocal warm ups.

My dh would then usually ask the child to sing something they have brought along, he would work on that and make corrections but not too many in a first lesson so as not to destroy confidence.

Then perhaps some repertoire should be suggested.

Warning signs are teachers that make children push their voices, who make them sing songs that are too old for them and doing anything that hurts.
