Best West End Show for 8yr old

Our son is 8 (a young 8). He will say he doesn’t like theatre as he doesn’t like loud noises but he absolutely loved Nativity the Musical and the pantos we’ve seen.

We want to take him to see a West End show this year. I’m thinking Matilda but wondered if there’s any other shows that you’d recommend?

Came on to recommend matilda...I think it is fab for his age and very enjoyable.

Avoid wicked if he doesn't like loud voices.

I've seen it 6 times and I still jump out of my skin every time the wizard speaks!

Matilda or Mary Poppins, The Lion King?
Is Chitty still on?

MrsWobble3 · 25/02/2020 21:23

Lion king?

Pinkflipflop85 · 25/02/2020 21:24

Joseph is returning this summer as well. It's a horrendous cheese fest but pretty good for kids. My 5 year old loved it!

ShesGotBetteDavisEyes · 25/02/2020 21:24

Matilda is wonderful - my 8 yr old dd who usually hates shows/films loved it.

IceColdCat · 25/02/2020 21:25

School of Rock? And definitely Matilda!

Pinkflipflop85 · 25/02/2020 21:28

School of rock closes next week.

My 8 year old adored the lion king this Christmas

ParsleyPot · 25/02/2020 21:36

Lion king and Matilda

FrankiesKnuckle · 25/02/2020 21:46

Matilda. Lots of humour that will go over his head but it's the kids playing leads that I think is engaging for kids to watch. My 6 y/o adored it!

Frozen from October (yay!)

Joseph is back! I'm taking DD for her 6th birthday, it's only 90 minutes. I saw it last year with my Mum for nostalgic reasons and we both loved it! Can't wait to take Dd.

Prince of Egypt is really good at the Dominion theatre near Oxford Street.
School of Rock is also good but loud.

sadforthekoalas · 25/02/2020 22:10

Definitely go but Sometimes musical theatre can be a bit loud. Ever since one bad experience I now take earplugs (the ones that just take it down a few decibels) with us just in case. They're not that expensive compared with the tickets.

legalseagull · 26/02/2020 09:39

The Lion king

SparkleM · 26/02/2020 18:30

Thanks everyone for your comments! Definitely a lot of great shows to choose from! Am going to try for Matilda tickets but maybe Lion King / Mary Poppins if not.
