I wasn't aware until this morning that poet Simon Armitage has a band.

They are called The Scaremongers and their first two songs sound really good.

Apparently the first pressing is a limited edition of 1000 copies done by a local company - so not much chance of getting it outside West Yorkshire! But you can hear the songs at their myspace.

My ever so slight claim to fame here - I went to college with the other member of band - Craig Smith, also part time poet. Saw Craig couple of months ago, he mentioned the band.

I'm not sure about the music having said that.......I want to like it, but can't quite. The vocals are a bit odd.

It's an interesting sound though. The song with the girl's voice on reminds me ever so slightly of Belle & Sebastian. (Not the voices, more the rhythm & structure of the song.)
