Oooo, I LOVE Anita Klein. Her prints are adorable. They aren't toooooo expensive, depends what size but you'd pay about £80-£300 for one. All her work is autobiographical about her, her dh and her dc. I love it.

I also like Charlotte Cornish, really different style to Klein. Lots of colour!

What kind of thing do you like?

Bewilderbeast · 16/08/2007 21:48

Klimt, the odd bit of Dali, Rembrant's pencil sketches

jaynehater · 16/08/2007 21:49

SIL got me a gorgeous picasso pencil sketch of mother and child when I had dd1. I'll try and find it.

Tatties · 16/08/2007 21:50

Lovely recommendations happimummy! What kind of thing do you like FK?

wheresthehamster · 16/08/2007 21:51

Not particulary sought after any more but William Russell Flint and his posing models are my favourites

FrayedKnot · 16/08/2007 21:54

hm I like the Anita Klein prints etc - but this is for my living room and they are not quite what I had in mind..

The Charlotte Cornish stuff is a bit too abstract

I do like lots of different styles but just feeling a bit bewlidered as have been on this site

here

for ideas and I don;t know where to start!

I want to move away from the obvious stuff. I do have a soft spot for Klimt Bwbeast but just want something a bit more unusual / less wellknown, I think

I do like pencil / pen sketch type things

I sooo don;t have the vocab to discuss art

This guy is a former colleague of my dh's who took up painting a few years ago and is now making a living at it.
Much of his stuff is a bit dull but sometimes he really hits the spot and you can get prints of some of them, though the link on his site doesn't seem to be working.

elasticbandstand · 16/08/2007 21:59

i like Dali,
that's all i can say on the matter.

jaynehater · 16/08/2007 22:02

this is the one I have in my bedroom right now and I love it. I love the practice hands, I love the pose.

harpsichordcarrier · 16/08/2007 22:04

I like this - it's called carnation lily lily rose by Sargent

Tatties · 16/08/2007 22:05

Do you like Georgia O'Keeffe?

Tatties · 16/08/2007 22:06

ooh that's lovely hc

McEdam · 16/08/2007 22:16

This is my favourite picture but you really don't get the impact online. here The thing about Vermeer is he could paint light. And you need to see the picture to experience it.

I've just bought an etching (ooh arr) by Peter Wareham - in a similar vein to the magnolia one. The picture I have looks very Japanese. I was at an arts fair and it was the ONLY work I actually needed to own and take home for my very own.

McEdam · 16/08/2007 22:17

Harpsi, did you ever read The Family at One End Street? The eldest girl was called Lily Rose after that painting.

happimummy · 16/08/2007 22:17

Have you gone to a local gallery and had a look around?? You can pick up some lovely prints, not too expensive, original art though and unique.

I have this in my bedroom and love it - so sensuous and yet restful and serene

Kathyis6incheshigh · 16/08/2007 22:19

LOL McEdam - that's exactly what I thought of when I saw it!
Wasn't it a narrow escape from her being called Carnation, or something?

McEdam · 16/08/2007 22:19

That's right, had forgotten that bit!

yogabird · 16/08/2007 22:19

i read the family at one end street, loved it but can't remember anything about it now - it was a long time ago mind!

harpsichordcarrier · 16/08/2007 22:21

yes I did and I had forgotten about that! god I loved those books. I wonder if that is why I was drawn to it in the Tate

happimummy · 16/08/2007 22:22

harpsi - I LOVE that painting. It's magical.

jaynehater · 16/08/2007 22:23

< I've never seen any G'O'Keefe before - it's all terribly......vulval, isn't it? Or do I have a twisted eye?

harpsichordcarrier · 16/08/2007 22:24

gosh yes Georgia O'Twinkle we call her in this house
was Lily Rose the erm plump girl who did the ironing with the iron too hot and made the posh nightie melt?
