magritte

Rembrandt and Vermeer. Beautiful.

Also don't think you can beat a bit of this for a more abstract look

misspiggy · 17/08/2007 11:31

Excellent taste Tiny . My mum hates them, says the Lighthouse one gives her the creeps!

Did you manage to get to the exhibition of his work at the Tate a couple of years ago? It was brilliant.

TinyGang · 17/08/2007 11:35

I did indeed go to the exhibition - wasn't it fantastic?! Also saw one years ago at the Hayward too.

I really am a big fan of EH. I can see why you mum finds them a bit distubing - they seem quite detached, but that's partly what I like about his paintings I think.

Cammelia · 17/08/2007 13:00

Edward Hopper at the Tate was one of the best exhibitions I've ever been to

jaynehater · 17/08/2007 13:12

i just checked my link and it was a lot of pants. Hope this one works!

pipsqueeke · 17/08/2007 13:13

william blake or salvador (sp) dali

If you like pen and ink/pencil drawings, Brian Lambert does some lovely work. I have three of his pieces. Really friendly old chap, too. I commissioned an ink sketch of Tower Bridge for my dh for £30, including framing, and he and his wife brought it down on the train!

misspiggy · 17/08/2007 13:15

It was excellent wasn't it? Really well set out and not too crowded.

We went to the Turner one at the Tate Britain and you could barely move in there, never mind actually see the pictures properly.

Think I might get DH and DS on a train this weekend for a wander around the Tate Modern - ages since I've been.

Ooh Pruners I love Freud too

TinyGang · 17/08/2007 19:51

Ooh yes...I try and get to the Tate once or twice a year if I can.

Love Lucien Freud too, but I'm not sure if I could live with one at home on the wall.

Cammelia · 17/08/2007 23:35

Lucien Freud superb

One exhibition that was really good a couple of years ago was lots of paintings about dreams and nightmares, it was one of dd's favourites although slightly scary

misspiggy · 18/08/2007 13:42

Well...we didn't get to the Tate. I'd forgotten that the blardy football season has started so DH is off to the game today and tommorrow we're visiting MIL, oh well - harrumph!

Happimummy, I had a look at your Anita Klein link, what beautiful pictures!

FrayedKnot - are you any closer to deciding what prints you might get?
