If you're looking for prints for a particular room, how about choosing by colour scheme??? The Tate website has this where you can choose a colour scheme and it gives you a range to choose from.

I'm glad you said it, jaynehater, I was too feeble. I'd be dead embarrassed to have one of her pictures in my house, wouldn't know where to look if I had uptight visitors...

Kathyis6incheshigh · 16/08/2007 22:27

That's right Harpsi!

elasticbandstand · 16/08/2007 22:28

is Athena still going?

harpsichordcarrier · 16/08/2007 22:29

I always rather identified with Kate

Kathyis6incheshigh · 16/08/2007 22:30

I rather think I was named after her actually Harpsi!

LOL! I was thinking more about my father visiting - I've breastfed in front of him but would be far more embarrassed about him being plonked in front of an O'Keefe.

FrayedKnot · 16/08/2007 22:39

i went into a gallery in Whitstable a few weeks ago (yes I know I shold have known better) and saw something wonderful and asked the price

Nearly fainted clean away and beat a hasty retreat with "oh that's a little bit outside my budget" type apologetic wittering

So I'm back to googling prints

lots more ideas thank you off to bed now but will review tomorrow

Edam I read that as "I was thinking more about my father visiting - I've breastfed HIM"

eeek!

Smashing the bottle of malt extract and tying my siblings up is the sort of well-meaning chaos I ended up causing at that age
Artwise Hans Holbein's scarily modern portraiture does it for me, I love that man's draughtsmanship

thanks, jaynehater.

I love Neil Simone lucky me, dh bought me a print for my birthday this year ('exploring the alternatives', I think it's called.) I love the 'picture within a picture' optical illusion angle.

I love Edward Hopper. Very atmospheric, quite moody and dark.

We have prints of this one on our bedroom wall along with this in the living room.

I can look at them for ages and imagine what the story is behind them. Do I need to get out more?!

GibbonInARibbon · 17/08/2007 10:16

Edvard Munch

Amazing

HollyGoHeavily · 17/08/2007 10:17

Another vote her for David Hockney - his use of colour is fantastic. Check out his California prints or the stage sets he has done - they are just so vibrant.

My favourite Hockney is Mount Fuji With Flower Here you go Mount Fuji With Flower.

I went to New York a few years ago and trekked all the way to The Met to see the original and it wasn't there - they had put it in storgae for the season - i nearly cried at the front desk!!

I did ask if there was any chance i could have a look and got a rather sniffy reply that them putting it in storage was a little more complicated than just covering it in bubblewrap and shoving it in an attic I had to concede they were probably right....

HollyGoHeavily · 17/08/2007 11:19

If you live in the North than a visit to Salts Mill in Saltaire near Bradford is well worth it. They have a whole permanent gallery devoted to his work and changing exhibitions of his latest stuff. I spend many an hour browsing about (and the cafe does fab Carrot Cake!).

TinyGang · 17/08/2007 11:24

I love Edward Hopper too MissP! We also have a couple of prints.

misspiggy · 17/08/2007 11:26

Holly (lurve the name BTW ) DH and I went there last time we were on our way up North and agree, it's great. The Saltaire village is also well worth a wander around to work off some of that carrot cake afterwards!

Cammelia · 17/08/2007 11:26

Picasso

Particularly the line drawings as fine art repros like jaynehater says
