Hogarth Exhibition - can really recommend it

Went on Saturday and it exceeded my expectations. I really think you have to use the audioguides though - excellent political commentaries by Andrew Marr and others. Dd aged 10 liked most of it and understood the social and moral connotations but I wouldn't really recommend it for younger children.

Is it in Hogarth house?

I love Hogarth, but have still never been, despite living in London all my life.

Thanks for giving my thread life Ulysees

Its at the Tate Britain.

Really informative re social and political history of London in the first half of the 18th C.

If you go, it is vital to listen to the audioguide on the way round imho.

Turns out he was a talented portrait painter as well.

I took DS1 (12) yesterday (he had an INSET but my other two were at school). I would recommend it, but would second CAM's view that it's not suitable for younger children -prostitution, VD, animal cruelty and other nasties. I found the audioguide and the programme extremely helpful (but you probably wouldn't go far wrong looking carefully at the dogs in the pictures ).

I was a bit spooked by Sigismunda - she looked exactly like someone I was at school with, who went on to medical school.
