Sufjan Stevens ... anyone else struggling?

I really want to like him, not least because he apparently has an Xmas album with a song entitled "Did I Make You Cry On Christmas? (Well, You Deserved It!)".

But somehow I expected his music to be rock or something, and it's not. Maybe I can't hear the lyrics well enough, and they're (hopefully?) the best bit? The instrumental twiddling isn't doing much for me ...

Wow - how weird, NQC - I've literally just downloaded Seven Swans and was going to start a thread on him!

I found Illinoise a bit hard to get into, but Seven Swans is lovely, imo. I'm toying with the Christmas album - have a completely rational hatred of Christmas albums of any type, though...

I'm still waiting for my 5 CD box set from Cd wow - I ordered on 30th Nov.

I thought the titles looked amusing so I listened to a load oc=f clips and thought it sounded like my cup of tea.

If it doesn't arrive soon Xmas will be passed and I'll never know!

Mind you - no post since Tuesday

Illinoise is the only one I've tried, and am struggling with. My try Seven Swans, or the Xmas one. (I download, and then if I like it, buy.)

DS1 apparently now loves Stompin' Tom Connors so, I keep having to go back and forth . DH is going to kill me for turning DS1 on to Stompin' Tom.

I heard his version of Once in David's Royal City on XFM the other day, it was lovely. I hadn't heard him before, it has left me wanting more.

I might download some more tracks from the Christmas album to get me in the festive mood. Must say I do like the sound of "Come On! Let's Boogie to the Elf Dance!"

That reminds me I must also dig out the Low Christmas EP, and the XFM compilation, to play while I'm making mince pies.

Xmas box set arrive - stickers and everything . It's a real mixed bunch of stuff but the majority are great. Elf dance is a big hit with ds! The traditional carolss are V mellow and Sufjan's own stuff is quite tongue in cheek or just thoguhtful. Intrugues by his other stuff now. Any recommendations?

Snow Patrol seem to like Illinoise
"Put Sufjan Stevens on....."

I'm warming up to Illinoise. Slowly. Starting to hum along, ish.

Sufjan Stevens is awesome!!!

Sevens Swans is a beautiful album!! Highly recommend!!

pointydog · 31/01/2007 23:44

He's beautiful. Now if you're going to write songs about God and get spiritual, that's what it should sound like.

Not rubbish rock cheese.

pointydog · 31/01/2007 23:45

oh. just realised this is a december thread
