Can anyone please recommend any decent restaurants in Sheffield City Centre? Preferably ones that don't cost a weeks wages!! French/ Mediterannean would be nice but any suggestions welcome.

Thanks

Definitely just city centre? or further afield okay too?

There are lots of places

Only French place I can think of is Cafe Rouge - in the Peace Gardens right in city centre

Noodles - East One in the West On complex. Done this place for some MN meets and it is really good.

Ha Ha Bar - contemporary restaurant, posh fishfingers and chips to more upmarket food. In the Peace Gardens again.

For Indain, there is Nirmals Restuarant on Glossop Road.

A little further out, just off the ring road down London Road (walk from city centre) is a fab Japenese place, Wasabisabi. Not cheap though.

Chinese - Hui wei, again on Glossop Road. Pretty comtemporary and modern.

K Pasa - Glossop Road. Italian but also does some Tex Mex as well.

La Mancha - West Street. Tapas bar.

Mama's & Leonies, Norfolk Street - not far from the theatres. Nice, small more traditional type Italian.

Que-Tal on Glossop Road. Does a good mix inc spanish/tex mex and Italian

Saffron Club on Glossop Road. A new modern, comtemporary Indian. Not tried it yet but looks nice.

Takapuna, West Street. Contemporary modern restaurant. Has music/dancing upstairs.
There are loads of Italians, Indians, etc. A walk down West Street, leading onto Glossop Road will bring plenty up!

This list is a bit mixed. None are really expensive. Some are pretty cheap! I haven't tried all of them, but they are the names I remember and that stand out.

I used to live in the city centre - tried a few

Thyme Cafe is lovely. Not cheap mind, and it is only open till 9pm. You can't book and it does fill up quickly. However the food is excellent. It is in Broomhill - a bit far to walk from city centre, but on a good bus route. It is on Glossop Road, but much further up the road and out of town than any of the others mentioned below.

A new one called BoHo has just opened on Campo Lane, just down the hill behind the cathedral. Food is all locally sourced and the service is lovely. Not too badly priced either, especially lunch menu. We are going there from work for our Christmas do.

thanks hulababy and ks, esp for the quick response! Is always best to try a restaurant that is recommended rather than rely on internet. Sounds like there's a few good ones on here for our girl's night out. Am meeting up with friends and we all studied at Sheffield but was a long long time ago now!

Thanks again!!

East One noodle bar is good for a group night out. You have big wooden tables and it is all very friendl. The portions are massive. the house wine is pretty good too. They have a smaple menu on the link below. As I said, we have done some MN meets there (after a trip to the Spa) and it goes down well.
