We went yesterday - but had prebooked tickets - the 'standby' queue was mahoosive though so get there early. It is a fascinating exhibition though - more about the sketches showing how the paintings were put together than the paintings themselves. Worth it imho but like I said get there early and be prepared to queue. I did get slightly annoyed with how crowded it was inside but thats me being a grumpy wotsit. Feel v. intellectual now though

I can't help you there - we got there at 11am and there was a huge queue outside and then another one inside but as we already had tickets I didn't really pay attention. On my disneyworld queue trained eye at least an 1 hour wait so i would be getting there about 1/2 hour before opening..

oh thats not so bad then i might be able to do that. if i leave at the crack of dawn. i shall plan. thanks.

I went to an exhibition at the National Portrait Gallery last week and was chatting to a curator who also works at the National Gallery. He advised getting there at 8 a.m. to queue for day tickets!
