Phantom of the Opera for 5-10yo?

I booked some tickets for Phantom for next Tuesday afternoon and was planning to take my daughter and niece. They were great value via Kidsweek where the show is listed as suitable for ages 5+. I've not seen it myself so went along with their recommendation. But I've been looking at reviews online (and speaking to friends who've seen it) and it seems to me to be unsuitable for under 10s.

Has anyone taken an under 10 and, if so, what do you think? I don't want to terrify the children...am thinking I might cut my losses and take them to the cinema to see The Smurfs!

I don't think it will scare them silly, but I wouldn't choose it for my dd who is 9 iyswim.
Try it but don't be surprised if they would rather see the wizard of Oz or something similar.

I think it's fine to take children to Phantom but there may be things that they don't understand or can't appreciate. Generally I think they will love it, though!
