Wigmore Hall: help me choose

I've just given dh a present of a WH membership, which means we now have to pick some things to go to. We are pretty musically uneducated, though I know he likes piano, and we quite like contemporary things (though those we were taken to, so they may've been v well chosen). I don't think singing is quite up our street yet.

Can anyone knowledgeable please give us recommendations? Programme is here

What a fantastic present - if I were you I'd go to as many as possible and make the most of it. That way you'll listen to a wide range of musical styles and forms.

I'd definitely go to the Emmanuel Ax one - he's a legend!

Quatuor Mosaïques on 13 Nov looks good too. Schubert's Death and the Maiden Quartet is one of my favourites, anyway.

there's some britten too, my dh loves modern stuff and would deffo like that. and i seem to remember the schumann songs are lovely.

Good grief, lots of ours on that programme binkie!

Emmanuel Ax and the Quatuor Mosaiques are, as SD says, definites.

If you like contemporary stuff please don't pass on Joanna MacGregor - such a compelling performer

Katie Mitchell in conversation - brilliant director, worth catching, but Stephen Dillane just took a total critical pasting for a self-indulgent solo Macbeth so his TS Eliot readings could be a bit ripe...

And I'd also go for the Penny & Dmitro recital on the 27th as he is FAB and she is a good accompanist.

And, singing notwithstanding, Roger Vignoles is just one of the best out there as an accompanist so is always worth seeing

Thank you so much for this. I told dh to come and have a look, and some hour later he appeared and said "I've been pottering about in that Mumsnet Culture Vultures bit .. there are some rather impressive people there aren't there?"
