I agree, it seems very macabre and tasteless.

It's not like she was an icon or legend (thinking of elvis/ratpack musicals).

Haven't seen it though, so who knows?

It's not a 'musical' it's an opera.

It's based on a life lived for gain, publicity and gratification. A life impressive in the changes it achieved and tragic in it's lack. Perfect subject for an opera if you ask me.

It's only having 6 performances atm

Have you seen it?

TooTiredtoGoogle · 02/03/2011 13:11

I saw this last Saturday.
Thought the show was fab, but was a bit disappointed with Turnage's music: you could tell it was his if you listened out for it, but not as 'wierd' as I expected. Thought it was quite commercial for him and felt more like a film score than an opera and a bit more like a musical.
I had expected it to be much more dark than it was.

Despite this, I did think it was fantastic and really enjoyable.

ps - I went not knowing anything about Anna Nicole Smith (I didn't even realise she was a real person and opera based on a real life story).
