What IS this film called??

I saw this film once on the telly, years ago, and I'd love to track it down.

It's set in Paris, in French with subtitles. It's a series of short romantic stories, in one film. Maybe five different stories.

I think it was made in the late '80s, but this could be wrong.

I don't know the director or the actors' names.

I'd be amazed if anyone can enlighten me! Grin

Thank you! :)

Amelie?

Rainydaze · 14/01/2011 23:00

Thanks, but no.

The stories are completely separate. Different characters etc. It pre-dates Amelie too.

Was it night on earth?

MarniesMummy · 14/01/2011 23:01

Delicatessen?

latermater · 14/01/2011 23:02

Could it be Eric Rohmer's 4 Seasons series - though they were separate films?

Rainydaze · 14/01/2011 23:04

Nope, not Night on Earth or Delicatessed. Thanks though.

It wasn't a particularly sophisticated film, but had a gorgeous atmosphere about it.

Nope, it was one film rather than a series.

No, as you say Je t'aime's too recent.

No, it isn't the cat film, although that looks intgriguing!

I think there was one story with a girl who was a student. She walked through a market.

One story involved an architect or an artist.

One involved a couple walking near the Seine.

There were little very brief musical inteludes in between stories with a cafe type band playing - very French!

You could try here. If you click on a year and then click on the film it takes you to a synopsis.

Rainydaze · 14/01/2011 23:18

Thanks for that link. I'll have a good look through!

Found it! Way off in the year (1995). It's Les rendez-vous de Paris, directed by Eric Rohmer.

Phew! I can go to bed now!

Thanks all. :)

Oh too late- have just been trying to search for you and thought it sounded like an Eric Rohmer film. I love solving problems like this!!

icapturethecastle · 14/01/2011 23:29

You might like a Full moon in Paris another one of his films. It is one of my favourites. I am making my way through his films on Lovefilm have just added the one you mention to my rental list. Just love Paris!

CaptainNancy · 14/01/2011 23:34

Rainydaze · 15/01/2011 07:10

Thanks all!

Good idea, icapturethecastle. I might have to add some of his films to my Lovefilm list too (I'm currently working through Mike Leigh and Ken Loach films at the moment - so a nice, romantic film would be very welcome!)

Thanks again! :)
