Venice is beautiful Socci, you just have to watch out for anyone wearing a red cloak

Poshpaws · 26/09/2005 15:16

I tend not to be disturbed by films because I always avoid those that I have a feeling will disturb me.

Hence, why I have never seen Deliverance or The Shawshank Redemption. Films that even hint at rape or male rape are always a no-no as far as I am concerned. Oh, and race hate, such as 'Missisipi(sp?) Burning'

Some of the films mentioned on this thread I just didn't understand so was not disturbed by them, prime example being American Psycho. Seen it twice and still don't 'get' it.

Marina, I adore 'The 400 Blows' (Truffaut?). One of my favourite films of all time.

lucy5 · 26/09/2005 15:25

I havent got5 but 2 spring to mind

American history x, one scene in particular still haunts!

The exorcist.

spursmum · 26/09/2005 15:29

Mine are
American History X-the kerb scene
8mm-Horrible subject but great film
Sleepers-again horrible subject and the book is worse
Ring-japanese version freaks me out
Arachnophobia-I hate spiders and can't sit through this film i've tried so many times.

donnie · 26/09/2005 15:33

blue velvet is truly disturbing.
the exorcist
deliverance
don't look now....I can NEVER watch that film again!
the vanishing ( original Dutch/Swedish - can't remember which! ) version. Truly horrifying
.
has anyone else seen that horrible Polanski film ' Repulsion'? now that is enough to put the most hardened horror fan off their popcorn? he also made a nasty film called 'The Tenant' which I saw when I was about 18 and regretted ever since....

Cha · 26/09/2005 15:39

Sophie's choice - it was awful before I had kids and now I have 2 (a girl and a boy just like Sophie) and it torments me whenever I think of being forced to choose between the two of them. It makes me feel physically sick.
Blue Velvet - nearly walked out but glad I didn't
Schindler's List - apart from the mawkish American ending with soaring violins...
Blair Witch - was forced to watch it as I hate horror movies, this one no exception
Poltergeist - watched it aged 17 and could not get into bed at night for years without leaping for fear of the lurking clown underneath. Shows what a horror movie wuss I am.

Poshpaws · 26/09/2005 15:42

Oh yes, American History X - not seen it, have heard about it though. The kerb scene in particular....

Definately not one for me to watch!

donnie · 26/09/2005 15:45

what is this kerb scene people keep referring to ? can someone put me out of my misery?

Enid · 26/09/2005 15:46

its a particularly nasty scene involving someones head on a kerb and a boot.

spursmum · 26/09/2005 15:46

Ahem it is a bit gruesome and the noise of it is sheer sickening. Have you seen it and forgotten or not seen it at all?

donnie · 26/09/2005 15:47

I have never seen it....don't think I want to now!

Goldfish · 26/09/2005 15:58

Reservoir dogs
Gothika
The Exorcist
Clockwork orange
Hide and seek

I absolutely love all scary films. I probably am a bit weird though.

blue velvet - couldn't go into the next room without someone switching the light on 1st!
blair witch - ditto
reservoir dogs - almost left the cinema during the 'ear' scene
casino - almost fainted in the cinema during 'head invice' scene
Rosemary's baby - so misogynistic, hateful film

cat82 · 26/09/2005 16:05

Ooooh....

The Ring (the japanese version)

The Blair Witch Project REALLY freaked me out i'm afraid

WatershipDown scared the pants off me when i was 5 and....honestly it STILL gives me nightmares, i can't watch it!

Halloween

Silence of the Lambs- Although Anthony Hopkins voice is still to die for in my opinion

Poshpaws · 26/09/2005 16:08

Just thought of 2: The Colour Purple (horrendous abuse) and The Burning Bed - a tv film I saw when I was about 15 starring Farah Fawcett, but it was surprisingly good, but disturbing. About a true appauling Domestic Violence story.

littleun · 26/09/2005 16:11

i watch too many films for them to scare me or freak me out.

Though i did watch The Ring 2 the other night and it scared the c**p out of me! Theres lots of jumpy parts in it.

Saw is quite good for being disturbing, amazing twist in it too.

Finbar · 26/09/2005 16:11

The Accused
Deliverance
Beneath The Waves -just relentlessly awful and haunting
Blue Velvet -sicko!
the Exorcist - haven't actually seen it - but I know a little bit about the key scenes and just know it would haunt me!

spursmum · 26/09/2005 16:11

13 ghosts just for the bit where the big ghostie snaps Matthew Lillard in half. OUCH!

dropinthe · 26/09/2005 16:19

LOL at Naked Lunch-seriously strange film with the typewriter that was a spider,I think, with a gooey inside.

The Shining still creeps me out.

American Psycho,(although the book is far,far worse!)

Blue Velvet when DH sucks in the oxygen or whatever is in that masky thing he wears.

The Grudge is the worst film I have seen for jumping out of your skin.

The Original Chainsaw Massacre is the nastiest film I think I have seen more because of the inbred family and the almost dead dad and the evil mother with the poor baby.I really find that film extremely hard to watch-its cheap and nasty bur VERY effective.

A film called Sante Sangre which was a blood fest and I'm still to find anyone else who has watched it.

Seven is rather gross too! Bur Bradd makes up for that!

gingerbear · 26/09/2005 16:20

Crash
A film about abuse of boys in a prison - can't remember the title.
Blue Velvet
Monster
Sixth Sense

dropinthe · 26/09/2005 16:20

Oh,the very last 5 minutes of The Blair Witch scared the friggin daylights out of me!
