Car stolen

Our car has been stolen & we’re so massively angry & upset!
We were visiting London over the weekend (drove so we could deliver Christmas presents etc) and it simply wasn’t there when we went to collect it.

Car was parked in a supposedly safe place on a private drive. Despite having quality manufacturer-fitted security, it was hacked & the perp simply unlocked it, disconnected it from our tracker app & drove off.
Met reckon it’ll be sold for parts & was probably broken down a few hours after the theft. It’s not popped up in ANPR checks.
Apparently new-ish electric cars are very much targeted at the moment, this wasn’t simply taken for a joy ride.

Despite doing all the right admin stuff, being pragmatic & calm, now that we’re home I feel absolutely traumatised by the whole thing - to the point of panic attacks & paranoia about locks. I’m amazed at the scale of the impact, even though nobody was physically hurt (it could have been much worse in that sense).

So just a warning really - if you have a modern EV, please take extra, visible security measures such as an obvious, high quality steering lock.

I’m so sorry to read this and for your upset but please remember it was a car,
not a person and the insurance will cover it and it can be replaced.

It wasn’t a personal thing it - the target was the car and not you.

Car thefts are common sadly but try not to let it upset you.

Op - sorry to hear this , I had a car stolen several years ago and it was really disconcerting , police said it was probably in a container for mainland Europe (we are near a port)
I have a newish EV and haven’t been too worried about theft as thieves would be taking a risk on range, foolishly I hadn’t thought about the parts aspect. I’ll definitely think about better security. Thanks for the warning.
