Stolen from estate

Many items have been stolen from my late parents estate by there sibling. I am still waiting on probate to say I am sole executor as their only child.

Is there any way to retrieve the items? There’s only one I truly care about that is sentimental and had 0 real life value. There is no grey area of who it was to go to etc. It was a simple they managed to get a hold of keys and went and took what they liked.

thanks for any advice

If you are an only child, who are these other people who stole items? How did they get hold of a key? Did your parents have a will naming you as the executor?

Go to the police, do you have evidence that they have the items ? Otherwise it’s pretty much a lost cause..

And don’t worry about upsetting them they obviously have no qualms about upsetting you!

The OP literally said it was her parents siblings and she is the executor.

I agree that I would go to the police, but if you want to try to do it more cautiously, a formal letter listing what they did, what has been stolen, and that these items consitute part of the estate of which you are the executor, and if they are not returned to you with 48 hours you will report the matter to the police.

Thank you for the advice. I am waiting till it’s legal that I am the sole executor - legally there is a lot of hoops for unrelated reasons - so that there isn’t any question but glad I can go to the police about this! Oh definitely no qualms about upsetting this relative!!
