Victim of ghost broker scam

Hello everyone.

I appreciate I may be seen as stupid by many people on here.

2 weeks ago I was looking for cheaper car insurance (they've gone up massively...). All of a sudden I found a broker on social media who had 20k followers and reviews. I paid that person and now the insurer sent me a letter to my house that they need to see details of my licence, v5c, bank statements.

i asked the guy to show me what he did on my policy and the info is completely wrong 😭😭 he pressured me into quickly setting up the policy and not make any amendments and to not click here or there...

my partner left me to be a single mum and i just started work again in a minimum wage job so i was desperate for a bargain. im trying to be able to afford everything and i feel sick now from the worry.

what do i do? im scared that if i call the insurer to cancel they might find me dodgy for cancelling after sending me a letter to ask for details .. if i tell them that ive been a victim of fraud they might cancel the policy themselves, making it even harder finding a policy. i feel so stupid but im sat here crying my eyes out. 😔

Don’t panic!

On most policies I think you can cancel quickly within a certain amount of days. Even after that you can cancel and there will just be an admin fee.

Just call up and say you used a broker but you don’t think he got all the details right.
