Car v traffic lights

Hi I F30 was driving yesterday and hit a set of traffic lights, turning g my car on its side and knocking the lights off kilter, (I am good no injury) well this guy on the other side of the road came over as I clamvoured out my upturned car and started shouting that I scratched his car, I took his details to shut him up, but thinking back my car could not have scratched his as his was coming the other direction but maybe the traffic lights did. Is it up to me to put it on my Insurance claim and give him benefit of the doubt? Or up to him to prove it? As not to be funny but I'm clearly in shock at being smashed and everyone else is asking if I'm OK and helping me, I'm in tears and he's screaming about a scratch on his car! Sorry dude but read the room! Anyway yes need to know if it needs to go on my insurance or not? Thanks 😊

could have been the traffic light, or did you skid about before hitting the light? Put it on your insurance, it’s not your job to police the claim. If your insurance company don’t believe him they’ll send a loss adjuster person round to look at h8s car and take a statement.

Gosh, hope you’re OK OP. I don’t know about the other guy and his car - isn’t it up to him to report it to the police/insurance if he thinks you caused damage? I wouldn’t want to deal with him personally. Glad other people were more helpful. How’s your own car and how are you?

Nimbostratus100 · 03/04/2023 07:26

wow, that must have been a big hit, I cant see how you would know if you scratched his car or not, so you may well have done. I am glad you are ok

When you tell your insurance company just say what this guy said but that you don’t think you hit him. Let them sort it out.

Blimey you must have been going at some speed…

EgyptAdvice · 03/04/2023 07:33

Blimey how did you manage that OP? Glad you're ok. Put it on your insurance claim and they will deal with it.

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 03/04/2023 07:46

You don't claim on his behalf, he will need to make the claim himself through his insurance who will in turn contact your insurance and they will assess if it's valid.

You should reference it on your statement but can state you don't know if it relates to your accident.

(Note: I know nothing about insurance, but that's what I think!)
