Brighton drug problem?

Hi,

I am considering relocating from the North East to the Brighton and Hove area. I haven’t visited since before the first lockdown (I’ve been pregnant), when I mentioned that I was looking to view some houses next month to a friend she told me Brighton has a massive drug problem. On my previous visits I wasn’t aware of their being a significant issue that would have put me off relocating.

We currently live in Newcastle where there are areas of the city where drug misuse is an issue. I was just wondering if anyone local could give me some ‘real’ insight. We have a young family so are looking at Hove or Roedean. We are relocating as we have family in London and would like to be closer now we have our own family.

Thanks x

Been here 5 years and never seen any drug taking or drug paraphernalia. Other than smelling a bit of weed we've been fairly lucky. It definitely does go on but I've not seen anything overt. Live not far from the Level and apart from it having minging toilets and a bad rep for drug deals etc never seen any of it. The odd random person on London road or western road a bit out of it but no worse than anywhere else in our experience anyway. I'd brush it off if it was a reason that might put you off. Someone else might have had a different experience but that's ours.

Lived here for 16 years , also quite close to The Level. DCs are at ‘good’ secondary schools and drugs are freely available. I went to a bar last week and was offered drugs in the queue to get in. There are lots of drug abusers around London Road and the city centre.
But, not sure how different this is to other cities?
It does concern me as a mother of teens tbh.

My friend who lives in Brighton found used needles in the play area near her house

I've never noticed any particular issues with Brighton and can't see that it's any different to any other town or city.

My friends grew up in a posh village and all there was to do was cider, weed and speed.

Thanks everyone for your comments, it is a little concerning as it’s such a big move for us. I feel we will possibly delay a bit until we visit a little more. I really appreciate you taking the time to reply x
