Malicious social services report

Next door but one to us are rather interesting characters. They like to be loud. Very loud. They always put loud music on when our kids play outside. They seem to hate kids. I complained about their music a few times years ago and gave up.

This year they’ve had very late and loud garden parties. Really loud. I didn’t report them. I didn’t fancy the repercussions. However I think someone must have reported them and they wrongly think it’s is because they made an “anonymous” report about our family to social services.

Thing is a lot of the details give away that it’s them. Including the very specific “I saw her sitting on her doorstep crying and she must have been hit by her husband. I was sitting on the doorstep getting air because I have Covid and smiled hello to her.

The details contain many out and out lies such as “the children play a game called when mummy hits daddy and daddy hits mummy in the garden”. Lie. It went on end on but I can’t face repeating all the disgusting lies.

We are a very happy family with very happy children.

These neighbours are a menace. They once drove their car into ours and refused to apologise, muttered a racist term and threatened my husband.

Why have they done this and what can i do?

I’ve reported it to the police to log it. Can I send a cease and desist letter because this is defamation?

We’re all so ill with Covid and I’ve been struggling to breathe for days. I don’t need this insanity.

Thanks for listening

I am sorry that this has happened to you. Social services obviously have a duty to investigate all reports of abuse but they are sadly quite used to vindictive referrals so I would imagine a phone call may be all that you get from them. If it were me in your situation I would not confront them as they sound like they would deny it and then be aggressive towards you for you even asking about it. It is rubbish and you don't deserve it. I hope you all recover soon too Flowers

I had a malicious report made out me by a family member and it certainly wasn’t just a phone call! They showed up unannounced at my door step. They also did an assessment but lucky it came back as case closed as I showed them some letters I had which proved the accusations were lies, (my daughter wasn’t at school at the time as she didn’t get a place in any of the ones I applied for so I kept her at home whilst I was appealing but this family member decided to report me and say that I just couldn’t be bothered to send her to school Hmm ) I asked social services what I could do as they agreed to the report seemed malicious but they said nothing could be done unless it was a constant thing not just a one off. I would be very amazed if social services only made a phone call to someone after reports of domestic violence, I think they will at very least want to conduct an assessment.

Ss called us and closed the case whilst on the phone. They wanted to talk to the school but we didn’t consent. They seemed to really believe us that it was malicious. It was a bit of a fantastical half baked report with no actual accusations of having seen or heard any violence … so maybe it was obvious to them. Ss advised me to report it to the police.

I’m really worried that ss or the vindictive neighbours won’t leave it at that though. It’s a real worry on my mind now when sleep has been so hard anyway.

I won’t confront them. They’re not worth it. Just looking for a row probably. I just don’t know why they’ve done this

Thanks for your replies

Wow I’m surprised to hear that, it must really depend on where you live then as ss contacted my kids school, drs, HV, dentist 😕 they really went over my life with a fine tooth comb, and after told me I nothing could be done about a one off malicious referral.

Sorry you are having this experience, I would take SS advice and counter report your neighbours to the police, it will build up a picture of what you are having to deal with adding weight to the argument if the harassment escalates

That sounds terrible PumpkinandCats. So awful that you had to go through that and they just got away with it.

I was very surprised they agreed to just shut it too. I hope they really have closed it.

I have reported it via the online 101 service dangerrabbit. As you say it’s good to log it in case it escalates.
