Hi, would you report someone you know is commuting benefit fraud?
Just curious if people's opinions.

No 100% not
Why do you ask?

mineofuselessinformation · 29/01/2021 20:46

What's your story, OP?
You go first and then I'll give you my opinion.

hiredandsqueak · 29/01/2021 20:50

No I wouldn't report anyone as you never know the full story of people's circumstances. I worked for DWP and wouldn't and didn't report anyone when I worked for them either.

Dontfuckingsaycheese · 29/01/2021 20:51

Nope! I used to work there and I had pals I knew were up to stuff. Still. None of my beeswax. If they rang up I just let a colleague deal with the call.

AIMD · 29/01/2021 20:54

Probably not. The people I know who are breaking rules are doing so out of desperation. Eg not declaring their new partner lives with them because they worry they won’t cover the basics if they’re taken into account with their benefits.

If it was someone literally driving about in expensive cars and claiming masses of money for various different things maybe.

MaryB90 · 29/01/2021 21:45

I won't go into much detail but I know a woman who claims benefits, has her own business and boasts about making £600 a week, doesn't declare her income. Why shouldn't she pay her taxes, she takes money from the government shes not entitled to. I feel like the money she takes could be given to people who actually need it.
Just wanted to know people's opinions, I know for a fact she isn't doing this out of desparation.

Yes report it. Really annoys me.

MeanMrMustardSeed · 29/01/2021 21:47

I would. You’re only reporting it for investigation. They’ll decide if there is anything in it. I can’t stand people stealing from those that need it most.

LakeGeneva · 29/01/2021 21:48

I feel like the money she takes could be given to people who actually need it.

You might feel that but history would prove you wrong.

Anyway, nope.

jelly79 · 29/01/2021 21:57

How do you know this person??

readyforachangemaybe · 29/01/2021 22:16

I'd report her.

TheCanyon · 29/01/2021 22:29

Do you know for a fact she is getting 600 a week though and not talking shit.

bombaychef · 29/01/2021 23:04

Depends on circumstances and if I defo knew for sure

Theunamedcat · 29/01/2021 23:11

They won't do anything never do really my ex us apparently limited capacity for work and paying rent on a flat

A, he doesn't live in the flat someone else does so he pockets the money UC give him

B, he is fine and working cash in hand bragging about it and getting away with it

A friend of mine was investigated for occasionally selling her kids old school shoes on ebay apparently it needs to be declared as income she had her benefits stopped while they investigated so her selling school shoes for about a tenner every few months got a massive response my ex nothing (and yes he was reported by his other exes personally I CBA)

Redburnett · 29/01/2021 23:18

You do not need to consult internet randoms, but rather make your own judgement. If the circumstances are as you describe then there is no reason not to report her. That does not mean that anything will happen though.

SittinOnTheDockOfTheBay · 29/01/2021 23:52

I'd report.

I hope it goes to court and ends up in the media, to deter others from doing the same.

liverpool1981 · 30/01/2021 09:48

I think it's wrong to cheat the system. But to me it says more about the person who takes the the time to ring and report than it does about the claimant. You don't know their full circumstance. I think it's a nasty low thing to do. You don't know how your life will end up.maybe someday this could be you. Karma is real and don't forget it. Personally I couldn't do it on anyone. It actually makes me think your nasty with a mix of jealous in there somewhere. Look at the fraud with the expenses in the government.

AllMyPrettyOnes · 30/01/2021 09:57

No I would not. I personally wouldn't want to be responsible for the fallout if they actually bother to do anything despite it being wrong.

AllMyPrettyOnes · 30/01/2021 09:58

But to me it says more about the person who takes the the time to ring and report than it does about the claimant.

Yep.

MottTheHoople · 21/02/2021 13:16

It's not about who it says more about, it's about how fraud has made the benefits system into something out of 1984, and stops people who need assistance from jumping through the hoops. Great you are so happy with that.
