Crime Reference...How long?!

Our car was stolen on Friday, a crime reference number has not been generated as the Officer is on rest days and the insurance won't approve anything till I have that number.
Can't speak to anyone direct just on 101, so very frustrating.... does anyone know how long this could take?

They automatically get generated on our force.
Were you given an incident number? If you ring 101 and pass that to the operator then they should be able to pull up the crime ref from it. That’s how it works for us anyway!

Yes we have the incident number but he said until the officer does the report no crime reference is generated?
