Is this a crime?

I told my friend I had gone to the police about something that had happened to me. I in fact hadn't but they wanted me to and I just sort of said it to get them off my back.

They now want to know all the ins and outs of what's happening and have even phoned the police themselves asking for an update. I might have played up what happened a bit, but only lied that I went. There's no crime in this is there? I haven't broken any laws?

I don't want the police involved which is the point but surely the police could tell my friend I don't want them involved etc. so just drop it? What's the worst that could happen besides my friend finding out I had lied to them?

The police will probably think your friend is a nutter

Your friend is over involved!

Pretending to report something to the police isn't a crime.

Of course it isn't. Don't worry about it, whether you did or didn't is your own business (and doesn't change the impact of what happened had on you).
Set boundaries with your friend.
She won't find out unless you tell her btw. The police would never give out information to any Tom, Dick or Harry ringing them up!

Thanks.

I'm supposed to phone the police back today, they left a message saying they wanted to chat about a few things, this is what i'm worried about, I can't very well tell them i've gone to the police when I haven't, can i?

I want to deal with this my way and my friend is just trying to take control to make themselves feel better about what's happened, wanting to speak to officers about it. I'd rather the police tell her that i'm dealing with it and like I've already told her, she needs to speak to me to find out what's going on.

I've said things to my friend like they know who did it, they have spoke to them etc. to get them off my back i've told them a few things that aren't true, I think this is what i'm concerned about.
