Please help I feel awful

Some advice on what to do please. I've had an awful week and I'm so tired. Yesterday I took my adult daughter and youngest out. My adult child let my car door bang into another due to the wind and as my littlelest wasn't well in my mad rush to get her home just left. I don't know if there's some damage to the other car and I'm contemplating phoning the police on myself. I don't know what to do

Don't obsess. It is unlikely it did any noticeable harm. The police would not be interested and it would waste their time. Maybe the other car driver is slightly miffed, maybe they are oblivious. It is insignificant either way.

So you are THAT person. You know you should have checked and, if damaged, left your details.
My fairly new car got a dent and scrape from somebody like you and it annoys me still three years later as I can't afford to get it fixed.

However you asked for advice, not a bollocking. Police won't be interested,.
If you 'come forward' publicly without knowing the car details you'll get a load of chancers saying it was their car.

So the only real option is to bloody well make sure you never do it again (and maybe if someone does it to your vehicle then you let them off the repair bill).

Although hopefully you were caught on CCTV and there is a bill from their insurance company winging its way to yours.

An honest mistake in my opinion, and you are obviously concerned about it. If you were 'that person', you, quite frankly, wouldn't give a toss.

Forget about it, put it down to the pressures of parenthood and tell your DCs to be more careful in the future; accidents happen and it's unlikely that many people would report a little 'ding' on their car. If a huge amount of damage was done, the owner would go to the police to appeal for information.

At the time it happened presumably you had the option to leave your details on the other car. Would have taken a second. Just hope no-one saw it and reported it. You'll probably get away with it but I've been on the receiving end and it's bloody annoying.

Hold on. You didn't do anything. Your adult child did. If anything is winging its way to you, please kindly pass it own to it's intended recipient.

You were tending to a sick infant while the adult with you may or may not have caused criminal damage, albeit accidental, with your property.

There's no such thing as "accidental criminal damage" - if it was accidental, it's not criminal.

it would have been better to leave a note, but you can't do anything about it now.

Well I'm not in law so I wouldn't know. Surely a hit and run can be an accident and a crime?

Someone left a white dash on my left wheel arch yesterday. I was irked. I haven't thought about it until I saw your post. It's a car, it happens.
