Does anyone have any words of advice, support, also want to write a book and want to chivvy each other along?

My DH has just started working a couple of nights a week (as well as us both working full time) I thought I could use the time to write a book, last time I tried to write my book it gave me nightmares but that was a few years ago.

(please ignore my other thread)

Yes lesbian boss.

Whats yours about (vaguely) don't worry I won't pinch, I've got enough going on already

Do you think it's better to do it under a different name, I'm just thinking it would give me more freedom but then again it would be nice to have my name on a book........(I'm just dreaming)

still only got 1,677 words but I now have direction and I know how it will start and end and what the characters are like, everyones names so it feels its coming together, all I need now is to keep on tapping until its done!

Mine's about some boys going on a trip through the countryside. No lesbian bosses!

I did start a book before but I decided it was just too ishoo-ish and frankly a bit boring. This one is going to have spice! (Though not sure what kind of spice yet)

comewhinewithme · 08/04/2010 22:25

Oh this thread has moved on a bit .

Am feeling all excited now.

SpeccieSeccie · 08/04/2010 22:27

CWWM - Are you fact or fiction? (Or conjecture, if there's a publishing category for that)

PlumBumMum · 08/04/2010 22:32

Lovemygirls I thought about a different name too

I have been hand writing mine, I have about 20 odd A4 pages written

mine is about 4 sisters all different issues and their bestfriend
have done the different prospectives for each one

wonder should I start doing it out on my laptop then I could word count

comewhinewithme · 08/04/2010 22:33

Fiction I have lots of ideas hanging around I just need to get them in some sort of order.

My story is about a woman who has realised she is in a crappy situation and she gets the chance to see her how her life would have turned out if she and her partner had not stayed together and had a family.

Not sure where else I will go with it but that is the idea anyway.

comewhinewithme · 08/04/2010 22:33

Hi PBM .

PlumBumMum · 08/04/2010 22:34

Funny I was telling my SIL about all the goings on in my old cul-de-sac, told her I could right a book on it, that could be my 2nd

PlumBumMum · 08/04/2010 22:35

x posts CWWM hope your alright pop over and see us some time

LoveMyGirls · 09/04/2010 08:17

PBM - there's no way I could hand write mine, my hand would ache after the first page and I'm quicker at typing than writing, you should do it on computer though because the word count is encouraging imo.

I'm not working until 11 today so I'm going to do a couple more hours on it

I actually have 27 pages, front & back, but think I will start typing them up as I gave the main character a career change a couple of pages into it
so need to decide which I'm going with and rewrite
Need to put office on to my laptop, although think mn might be a distraction

IReadCookeryBooksInBed · 09/04/2010 08:54

I find the NaNoWriMo philosophy pretty good.

LoveMyGirls · 09/04/2010 09:55

I'm struggling, I keep going from writing from my point of view then switching to writing as if I'm the third person.

What do you all do?

Up to 2,100 words now.

OP posts:
PlumBumMum · 09/04/2010 10:43

third person, allows you to flow better to other characters point of view

LoveMyGirls · 09/04/2010 10:53

I've just gone through and changed to first person, damn, though I think it migth suit the book better because I'm writing from different people and it's easier to make the reader feel closer to the character (or I could just be talking out of my arse and have to change it all again at some point)

I've already done 500 words since I started this thread so my next goal is 2,639, I'm currently on 2,150.

I love writing in the first person as different characters - it's so much fun trying to be a 'ventriloquist' and do different voices, especially if they are really different from you.
I think if you are using several voices and switching you may want to make them sufficiently distinct that if someone picked the book up at random it would be clear who was talking just from the way they write.

LoveMyGirls · 14/04/2010 07:58

I am planning to work on my book on thursday, how is everyone else doing?
