When do you write and for how long?

Just that really. I have two smallish children and work full time. So how do other writers (or wannabe writers) fit it in? How often? How long? Where? What time? Do you have to sacrifice anything else for it?

Yes, you do have to sacrifice something else to make time and space for your writing. Whatever that "something" is, you need to treat the free time as your "job" or a promise to yourself and write during that time for at least half of it (perhaps using the other half to read through what you've previously written or edit something, or just write the whole time). Even if that time that you've managed to carve out is only a half hour. The when and where depends completely on your life and household. It may be that you get up early or go to bed later or you give up your lunch hour. The solution anyone else has found for themselves won't necessarily work for you.

When I write it is at any time of day, for maybe 30 minutes.
But I want to write more. I have to mentally kick myself to do it, even though I like writing.
Being in a writers group that met weekly (you didn't have to go every week) really helped with accountability and I wrote much more than if I hadn't been in a group.

I'm lucky enough to work very flexibly and my work has periods when I can't use my work computer (rendering) so I sometimes use that time/lunch hour to write.

I also attend a weekly zoom call with my writing group. We catch up briefly then mute and write for 30minutes.

Other then that I often take my laptop upstairs early to bed and write a few hundred words.

I have written at softplay too.

My writing buddy uses a dictaphone while cycling and driving then transcribed it.

Thank you. How did you find a writers group?
