Do people share poems here ??

I am new to writing poetry and prose, certainly not aiming to become published or anything like that. But I would love to know if it's possible to share in here as 'writing' forums are a little off-putting generally. Maybe this is not the place?

If it is acceptable to share a poem, I have a very short one that I would love to post, just to get some feedback really. It's very much an isolated thing for me so I hope that makes sense! If stuff like this isn't encouraged in this part of the forum then that's perfectly ok Grin

I've seen poems shared. I write (poetry and prose) but I've never shared anything like that here but there's no reason why you shouldn't, @poemything .
Brace yourself! I'm happy to give you some feedback and I promise not to be cruel but I will be honest. Blimey. I should shut up now! 😂 Go for it!

I don't know what the general etiquette is, or anything about poetry TBH, but I'd love to read it. Always happy to celebrate creativity

Just be aware that posting on here counts as publishing when it comes to competitions and other submission opportunities, and that MN will probably hold the copyright, too.

Good point. Internet a mine field for this stuff.

Roses are red
Violets are blue
Poetry is difficult
Bacon

Apologies, I couldn't resist. I do not wish to demean anyone else's better efforts than mine.

poemything · 18/04/2026 21:59

Thanks everyone.

I don't know anything regarding competitions, but this made me wonder if it might inhibit people sharing, generally, online?

We were just discussing bacon here, I wonder if you read my mind Grin

I'd be happy to read and share feedback OP!

Sorry I am late to reply.

I am now re-editing the poem I was thinking about posting.

I would really, really love to find a community online to chat about writing that wasn't (forgive me here) cringe....I am referring to how many forums seem to attract perpetual egotistical arguments, with only 2% of the members actually sharing their passion, the rest forming a clique, showing off or just generally being negative.

Reddit can be ok, although there are some bizarre rules that feel inauthentic, or at least don't encourage honesty (having to reply to a certain number of posts before posting your own, etc).

I just wish there was something more r e l a x e d....positive, you know? Grin

Is there a poetry chat area on MN?

Do you know if there is a Stanza group in your area? Look on the Poetry Society website - they publish details of Stanza groups. They are usually workshop groups where people bring along poems in progress for other members to look at and make suggestions for improvement. They can be run as their members decide, however, so vary a bit, although IME most are fairly straightforward workshops. If there isn't a local one you can set one up if you are a PS member.

Will definitely look into that, thank you!
We used to have a decent sized live poetry community in my (otherwise miserable) town which has dwindled since the pandemic.
