How do you find space and quiet to write at home? Or do you write elsewhere?

i live with DH and two boys in a small apartment. I work full time out of the house, but have the school holidays. DH is part time, and wfh for most of that. Both boys come back and forward from school / uni and work at home a lot too. The upshot is that there is little space, very little privacy and no peace to write.

Where do you write? How do you work around challenges such as above?

It's definitely a challenge, but I think you just have to make the time if it's important to you. I get up early and write then.

Can you go out to a cafe occasionally? I try to write in 30 min blocks, and I (incredibly nerdily) keep a spreadsheet of what I've done on what days. Even if I only manage 30 mins I know I'm moving forward.

Honestly, I prioritise it. I wrote on lunch breaks at work, got up early, stayed up late etc. And if I’ve got a deadline, I do expect the rest of the family to shut up, look after themselves and leave me alone.

I write in notebooks at work on my lunchbreak and at home in the evening once my child is asleep

I write on long train journeys, but only when travelling solo.

I am very distractible so work best in the library with studious people around me
