I've wrote a poem, about my dad and I would like to enter it into a competition and maybe get it published or recognised somehow. Can someone point me in the right direction?

This is a useful page from the National Poetry Library - it’s got a list of competitions, a list of magazines you can send your work to, and also some general advice for emerging poets. Good luck finding a home for your poem!

The Cafe Writers have a competition for poetry.

I think you might do better to find a local writing group/open mic night in your area. You can also share poems via Facebook and social media. If you really want to enter competitions - there are entrance fees - I would recommend getting hold of anthologies of prize winning entries. It will give you an idea of the sorts of work that judges are looking for. (I am a creative writing tutor, and did once win a reasonably prestigious competition.)
