Scrivener

I updated my laptop, re-downloaded scrivener but the content hasn’t appeared. The app is there but none of my files.

I did back up the old laptop so the content should be in that hard drive - but can someone reassure me that I haven’t lost all my work…I’m in a panic and can’t see how to get it back!

If it's backed up on your old laptop you should be fine!

Have learned this from the same experience :) Scrivener doesn't store files in the app - they are kept where you saved them (ie on your old machine), so they won't come across automatically. You'll have to use a USB or Dropbox / email etc to move them. Hope that helps.

Oh, thank you both!

I have no idea how to find the files. Guess I’ll need to start googling …

The customer help people at Literature and Latte are pretty good - at least they were the last time I had to ask them something, which, admittedly, was years ago.

You really need to backup your work to a location other than your laptop. If it becomes stolen, corrupt or you spill a can of coke over it you will lose your hard work.

I export my files to my desktop and then upload them to Google Drive. I do this every few days unless I make significant progress.

i put the files into an edge hard drive because of fear of accidental clumsy ruining everything.

I don’t know how to get files out of the little black box. I guess I’m about to have to figure that out.

I think the sweet spot is to be a creative who likes tech. I miss floppy discs and really, that is my comfort zone.

this might be a problem
