Be willing to look (confidentially!) at my 10 year old's poems? I think she has a real talent for writing, but would appreciate an outside view!

Better than having anyone look, get your DD to read poetry and learn the various ways in which poems are structured. Get her to read aloud, so she can hear the rhythms and the rhymes. Get hold of a Rhyming Dictionary so you can help her learn (a Rhyming Dictionary does not only give rhymes but gives examples of types of poetry, as well as explaining and demonstrating various poetic forms (e.g. sonnet, villanelle) rhythm forms, and types of rhyme). If she has talent then it needs nurturing, which means teaching how to write poetry - one cannot break the rules unless one knows them, for example.
