Different books, different agents?

Hi all, just looking for some advice really. I've written a children's book, which is currently out for submission with several agents, but I also have been working on a novel that I'd like to get published some day. Do writers often have different agents for different types of books? Is that a thing??

Yes. Different agents have different areas of speciality so definitely don't send an adult novel to a children's book agent.

Well, if you don’t currently have an agent, you should sub the adult novel to the most appropriate agent who reps the kind of thing you write, and is open to submissions. If you had an agent already, it’s likely he or she would suggest another agent in their agency as a first port of call, if appropriate.
