Beta Readers

Hi
I've written several flash fiction and short stories. I'm now writing a novel and wondered where people get their beta readers from please?

I have friends and family that would probably be happy to read and give feedback, but they're very kind and wouldn't like to be critical. I'd prefer feedback from a more objective viewpoint.

I would love to know this too! I have never figured it out and it feels wrong asking friends. It feels like there must be some mythical beta community I’m not privy to. Would I be able to message you too, Mama1980?

Not sure if you've already tried it but I'm finding Scribophile very good for getting readers / constructive criticism and ways to improve.

I got some from a facebook book club that I was a member of, however the feedback was variable. People didn't want to be as honest as I needed them to be.
