Self Publishing Non-Fiction?

Hello!

I wondered if anyone has any experience of self publishing a non-fiction e-book?

This is my first book and it's quite niche as it is for a specific profession.

I've got the cover sorted and the draft completed. Although there is still more work to do, I want to start background work on marketing and actually publishing it.

I would eventually like to generate an income from writing in this genre and have the next book forming in my head.

Any comments or advice or just chit chat from others who have done or are considering would be much appreciated!

If you want an income then what do you see as the revenue model, if you don't sell enough - Will it be consulting, lecturing or something else?

Thank you for replying!

That is a good question. Is that usually necessary in order to generate income?

I hoped I could write enough material eventually that having several books would create a bit of income.

The niche I am writing in has a large potential market and a strange lack of guidance published. There are big official textbooks but very little informal information so I do think there is space for my books.

Do you write and self publish? If so, has the process been as you imagined at the outset?

Thanks again for replying!

That makes sense. Most non-fiction writers I speak to make next to no money, even relatively successful ones but if you've seen what looks like a viable segment for sales then good luck.

Ah ok! Is that because it is a very defined group of customers? Whereas fiction usually has broad appeal?

Thanks, that is good to know. I appreciate you taking the time to reply Thanks

If you've gone to the trouble of writing a book, why stop at an ebook? If you do it through Amazon's KDP publishing, you can self-publish in paperback as well. It costs you nothing, except if you wish to buy the book yourself, and you can buy author copies to sell in person if you're doing any presentations about your book.

Thanks for that advice, I hadn't really thought about that! I was hoping to do some worksheets with the book but that's as far as I have got with maximising the efforts I've made!
