day jobs

Just that really. What do you all do in your day jobs? I do a spot of non fiction (paid) writing for magazines. I'm an ex news hack. I've only had a single short story published (The People's Friend), but would like to see more in print. What do the rest of you do?

You sound like me! I've also had one published in the People's Friend. I work day to day as a freelance content writer. I mainly write corporate blogs for a variety of industries.

The annoying thing is that making a living as a writer leaves very little time to concentrate on writing the fun stuff.

My DC take up a lot of time too.

Except I seem to have lost my mojo with mine!

Oh me too. I'm feeling very blah about it all but don't forget that artists have been affected by Covid. It feels a bit pointless at the moment...that's part of the challenge though.

I have a full time day job that doesn’t really involve writing. I have a series of four non fiction books with the copy editor and graphic designer now. They were due out in autumn but like everything else Coronavirus has delayed the publication. Now publisher tells me February for release. The next two in the series are in production.
I’ve done a few articles for professional magazine but they don’t pay a fortune.

I’ve also a first attempt at a non-fiction book being looked at by a couple of editors at the moment. I’m not sure it will go anywhere though. Non-fiction is definitely easier to get a deal for. I do it almost as a hobby, but also to use as a business card.

Book almost ready to go (I will be self publishing). Planned for the end of Jan.

Sahm (inc. a pre-schooler). I have had a series of admin jobs in the past. Now in the early stages of planning an on-line business (low key but something I am interested in and not totally unrelated to writing). I also plan to do some voluntary work with a charity I have a lot of interest in.
