How long to write a children’s book?

Hello everyone. I’m sure the answer to my question is ‘it depends’ but I was just wondering how long it takes to write a children’s book (probably ages 5-8) once you have an idea?

I have ideas but find it difficult to write in a children’s style as there are less words. In my head I’d like it to be a beautiful picture book but can’t seem to get the message across with minimal wording!

Once you have an idea, how long does it generally take you to write a book (assuming you have the time to write daily)?

Thank you!

5-8 years is early readers/first chapter books I think.

Shorter books are meant to be harder as you have fewer words to get the idea across.
I don't think it's the writing is the time killer. It's the editing. I do a middle grade (about age 10-12) one with 40-50k words in a month generally but it's taking me forever to edit.

Thank you for the reply @Witchend

I’ve read on other threads the editing and checking is the worst/most time-consuming part. I guess I just need to put pen to paper and see what I can come up with!
