Advice on how I can start?

Hi everyone. I'm a 31 year old who's always created stories in my head. It's not something I've ever attempted to write down. They are almost like secrets. I don't know exactly if they will be interesting to others but I'm kind of wanting something to do with my life as a hobby. I would love to write my stories and see how far I can get into writing a book. But I don't Intend to ever share it at this stage. I just want to play around. Is there a way online I can write and save stories? I don't want anyone in the house to find them unless I do something amazing.

Any advice? I feel I could be good at it. I daydream alot in the evenings whilst falling asleep. Thanks 👍

via my local library service I can access a course provider called universal class. .its American but free and I have done a couple of their creative writing classes. maybe your LA does the same?

When I did creative writing as a minor at uni we used to be tasked with writing 1000words a week. They were based off of set prompts, so a photograph, a word, a genre, childhood etc.

You can set them yourself by googling vintage photos, famous quotes etc.

You can use Google Docs. Just make an account, write in docs and it saves it automatically to your account.

Join Twitter, and follow the accounts of writers you like.
Follow hashtags like #amwriting #fiction #shortstories. There's loads, and it's a very supportive writing community.
There's a couple of helpful magazines commonly available, try Writing magazine, or, if you are female, try Mslexia magazine. Both are online too, and full of ideas.
There's an online group called Jericho Writers who are helpful at any stage.
Try your local area, eg. Writing West Midlands, Writing East Midlands, Writing SouthWest etc. They're funded, partly by Arts Council, and run free / cheap short courses for beginners. Where are you based?
And, enjoy it!
Remember - even Mozart started with scales.

My stories often start in the evenings as I'm falling asleep.

I tend to start with a scene. I play it out in my mind for days, even weeks. Then when I'm happy about it, I start wondering how it came about. I then have a couple of days or weeks working how to start and I write.
