Website builder: Wix, square space, weebly or something else?

Hello
Does anyone have experience of a good website builder for writers? I have previously been with Moonfruit but found it very basic and not very user friendly. I just want something pretty basic, easy to use and customise, not crazily expensive. To put contact/agent details, a few links to pertinent things, couple of extracts etc.

Also my domain name has expired so I need to rebuy- is it best to get that as part of a premium deal or should I buy separately? Seems cheaper
Thanks very much!

What is your main aim for the website? Is it just to be a hub for your writing and to have an online presence, or are you hoping for it to actually rank well and high on google?
For example if someone were to google your topic here would you expect it to rank and show as a result?

If you want it to rank, wordpress and squarespace will help best with your SEO in our experience.

If you just want an online presence to be able to direct people to, Wix is easy to use, but not very SEO friendly.

Buying your domain and website separately is your best bet too I think.

Thanks @AnnieMaul, it's more to have somewhere to direct people to. I would only want it to rank highly when my name is searched!

I would and do buy separately, possibly from a different provider, for administrative ease if you disengage from any development or hosting package.

Good luck.

Thank you! Does it matter who you buy the domain from? Weirdly disparate costs depending on the company.

Provided it's someone professional then it doesn't matter. There is a surprising variation in prices for the different categories (.com, .co.uk, .net and so on) so best to look at the prices for yours. I've used Fasthosts and GoDaddy and I'm sure others will have better suggestions.

Good luck.

Yola is very easy too

I'm following this thread with interest. I'm looking for a website for similar purposes. I would also like to add a few blogs/articles pertinent to my book.

Writteneggs · 06/07/2020 17:01

Thank you, all. I hadn't heard of Yola -will investigate.
So far, I like that Wix has writing specific templates.

I've built three free yola sites and found it very simple. It took a few months but we know rank top for what we need aswell

Daphnesmate01 · 07/07/2020 15:02

Don't want to hijack thread...but...cost wise - best deals for domain and hosting?

doadeer · 07/07/2020 18:26

Go Daddy is really cheap. And blue host - I barely pay anything

Daphnesmate01 · 07/07/2020 21:29

Thanks doadeer, will look further into your suggestions.

Daphnesmate01 · 08/07/2020 20:49

doadeer - just looked at blue host. Rates seem reasonable. Can I ask which package you chose (3 options)?

doadeer · 08/07/2020 22:37

Sure I've just done the cheapest one. I've built three websites from this for family businesses. Never had any problems 👍

Sorry for the delay.

Yola is easy to use and you can make in some days.

I just wanted to say thank you, the pieces of advice provided here helped me a lot. I am a user interface and user experience designer for some beauty salons. Most of the designs for beauty salons I take from blog.boxmode.com/top-12-beauty-salon-website-designs-ideas-for-2021/ in case if someone is doing a beauty salon design then it might help you. I don't like to waste time, so this is why I take the designs from there. By the way, I tried yola and it was really very easy to use.
