Hi, I'm interested in getting into writing poetry. Any advice about who I could. develop that with? There seem to be no evening classes in my area, which surprises me slightly. Very willing to travel for the right course.

All advice welcomed.

The Poetry School do some very good online courses, as well as classes in London.

Or get some books first to get started. There's also online courses. I tend to just try to have a go, read a lot of poetry and once in a while read a bit of theory from my poetry books.

Good luck. It's so lovely once you really get into writing!!

I would read everything and anything you can. Read something everyday. Join the Poetry Society, you get their quarterly journal and they advertise comps, events and workshops. Join a local 'Stanza' poetry group (look on the Poetry Society's website for a list). I have been with mine a year now and they have been great! I know its not a course but its very helpful. Plus you learn a lot. Lastly attend readings and open mic sessions (my poetry group organises these but there could be a different set up where you are) Great to hear it and get into it all!

For a course try your local seconday schools (adult ed) or universities. I once did a 6 week writing evening course at Cardiff uni. Also try the Open University.

These are really helpful suggestions, thanks.
