Printer for Home Computer

A bit of a boring question but we could really do with updating our home printer. I am considering a laser printer, currently we have the other type - please forgive me, I'm not very up-to-date with technology.
Does anyone own a laser printer and if so, which type do you have? Does it cost a fortune to buy replacement ink as my daughter and I get through a fair bit. We don't want to spend a fortune on it as these things have a habit of going wrong. Recommendations please?

I have an hp envy with instant ink (ie you pay a certain amount for printing each month and ink is included - it automatically gets sent to you). I got 7 months free ink with mine but a quick google shows one with 15 months free:

Also, unless you print more like thousands of prints a month you will probably be better off with an inkjet than a laser

If you're printing manuscript pages it will probably be in the 1000s. I went for a mono laser.

Lots of writers on here, what does everyone else have? Laser printers print in black and white (at least the affordable ones)? Might need colour for my daughter's art projects etc. at school though.

HP consumer laser printer. The toner cartridges seem expensive but when I looked (several years ago), the price per page for black and white text printing was lower than an inkjet.

OP I hope you don't mind me adding this here but I am debating this too

thing is, I have been advised by other writers that unless I am printing 1000s of pages, I would be better getting it printed at a print shop.

If I actually finish the blooming thing, I will have appx 400 sheets, double spaced for my editing. So I'm holding off for now - I haven't been to the local print places yet, but I have a rough idea of their prices and I can see how it would be cheaper to run off several copies there!

Okay, so a laser printer might not be the best way to go but ours is on its last legs, so what sort of printer do you have? I am looking for one that is capable of producing quality colour prints though. Anyone?
