Does anyone have a website?

I've noticed that quite a few authors get picked up from websites where they publish short stories/excerpts etc.

How many people have a website, and what do you put on it?
How would you build up a readership that way?

Any good examples of up and coming new authors I could look at?

Sorry, I can't help but I'm watching this thread with interest as I plan to develop my own at some point.

I guess if you googled a few of the well known authors, they might have a website/blog of some sort.
