Everytime I read a sentence back I just want to cringe. I might as well call the novel "Snowflake" and be done with it. Argh. I'm writing about an emotional topic but seriously? I need to start seriously cracking down on my ego.

Is this your first draft? If so, I think you should just get the scene written, so that the characters say what you want them to say, and accept that at the moment they don't say it in the way you want them to say it. Same with the narrative. Just keep muttering, "It's only a first draft..." to yourself till you get through it.

My fear is that I'll die and someone will read that first draft and think it's a final copy and be all sorry for me

Ha ha, excellent. I'm going to write FIRST DRAFT on the top to ensure this doesn't happen to me

I'm terrible with not being a perfectionist on the first draft. Terrible.
