I know this is a bit hard faced, as there are loads of courses and books out there offereing advice & guidance, but truth is I'm a bit strapped for cash and can't afford to buy them.

Is anyone able to tell me, are there any hard & fast technical rules regarding for children? I'm thinking word count, number of pages, words per page, and how these differ for different age groups?

Years ago I bought a writing journal & there was a section about this.
I was surprised (naively) that picure books had to have a certain number of pages, and a certain number of lines per page, for example.

I've searched high and low for this journal and can't find it anywhere.

TIA

If you google "word count for children's books" then you get a large number of hits.

But perhaps another way would be to take a look at some books for the age you're aiming at and see what their word count is. You can usually find that out on line.

Google!!

And visit bookshops. Look at published books in your target market. Page count? Word count per page? Subjects? Etc.
