Richard & Judy and/or DM First Novel competitions

I think I'll try and have a go at one or both of these this year.

Probably the Daily Mail First Novel - as they only insist on 3000 words rather than 10,000 and there's an extra month to the closing date.

I've probably got 3000 words - just not in the right order!

My only niggling doubt is that the prize money might not compare favourably with what would be on offer after a bidding war with several international publishing houses, so perhaps it's not worth pursuing? ..... hee heee

Seriously... anyone one else going for these?

Are they a bit of a stitch-up?

In the sense that if your work was good enough, you might get a better deal from a conventional approach to an agent/publisher?

Of course, I guess not many agents would even be willing to cast their eyes over a submission of only 3 or 10 thousand words.

Anyone got any experience of being long or short listed or even winning...?

How long do you think they would give you to finish the novel?

Has anyone got any good tips or links to websites they would recommend for guidance on synopsis writing?
