Internal conflict

I'm currently writing a story and at a section where the main conflict is internal- the mc is taking action that is going against her natural instinct to protect herself.

Has anyone got any useful references or examples of books where this is shown well?

I'm ending up with a lot of times where she smiles or agrees with somebody, at the same time as feeling some mild physical discomfort!

Thanks.

Have you watched 'Faking it, tears of a crime' on TV? Discovery channel I think.
If you are looking for physical signs of internal conflict that would help you, it deals with the way things are said if the speaker is conflicted too.

No but can I recommend The Emotion Thesaurus? I can't remember if 'conflicted' is one of the ones or not but it's very helpful on different physical ways to show emotions.

Yes the emotion thesaurus is brilliant! I write romance so always have to have internal conflict and this book is brilliant for ways to show how someone would act.
