Radio plays

Has anyone here written a play for radio? I'm doing a course at the moment and it's an option I'd like to try out but I'm unsure of where to start. I love listening to Radio 4 plays but usually just relax and I wish I'd paid more attention to their structure! Any tips on what kind of thing works? Thinking only a few characters and lots of dialogue is a start... Thanks

Mslexia had a very good mini writing guide on radio - it's an ebook and only costs a couple of £. I haven't properly attempted writing one yet though.

Great thanks. I will look into that

I use the same methodical process for radio drama that I employ for telly.

I plot very vigorously ensuring that I hit my story beats at the right time. Then I start drafting. I try to lay off the dialogue until I have my structure nailed. When I haven't done that, the net result is always too flabby.

And I use Final Draft software just as I do for telly. I just tinker a bit.

Thank you - that's really helpful.
