Words, words, words

So this is a bit of a creative writing AIBU really.
AIBU or should some words be just avoided?
I really hate the word:
Diaphanous
I can't stand it. I know it describes something perfectly well but to me it just seems so pretentious. It irritates the hell out of me. I'll never write it, ever.
'Gossamer' comes close to being banned too. And maybe 'winsome '.

YANBU - some words just make me 'bilious' (and yes, that's one!) .

I also dislike 'membrane' but I have no logical reason for the hatred there. And one I keep seeing everywhere at the moment is 'sassy', I can definitely do without that.

Ooh, thanks, that was quite cathartic.

You're welcome pocket.
Having said that, I've just finished a novel by Patricia Highsmith where she uses 'diaphanous '. Think I might have to take it all back as she's one of my favourites!

Ooh don't you dare take it back!
What's wrong with:
sheer, fine, ultra-fine, delicate, light, lightweight, thin, insubstantial, floaty, flimsy, filmy, silken, chiffony, gauzy, gauzelike, cobwebby, feathery; translucent, transparent, see-through; raretranspicuous, translucid etc.

(and yes, I did just cut and paste the thesaurus - and now I'm quite taken with raretranspicuous! Maybe it's a bit of a mouthful though...)

Yes! Any of those words are better.
I love my thesaurus. I give it a hug now and then.
