Online writing courses

Has anyone done one of these that they can say was a real help?

At the moment I'm looking at those on offer by Faber, and the UEA (not a degree, though).

If anyone has any experience I'd love to hear it

I think they can be good and I'm sure Faber and UEA would be high quality courses. I personally prefer face-to-face as I know I tend to lose motivation with online courses, but that's not the fault of the course!
I've done some good online ones with Gotham Writer's Workshop, which is in the US.

Thanks! I live overseas in the middle of nowhere, where face-to-face writing courses don't exist, so I'm limited to online.

I did the 3 month Curtis Brown writing for children course. I really enjoyed it and it transformed my writing. There are adult courses too and shorter £200 5 week courses.

Faber and Curtis Brown both do courses which are really well thought-of.

There's a brilliant online self-editing course run by Emma Darwin and Debi Alper, which I've heard nothing but good things about.

I did the UEA intermediate, it was good but I'm not sure it was the best value for money in terms of the input you get from the tutor.

I recently did the Debi Alper one OnTheRise mentions and it was brilliant. I didn't think there was much else I could learn about writing but I was wrong and she gives line by line feedback on the work (relatively small passages but so useful).

I'd only recommend it if you've got the basic grounding in writing already and have already started a novel draft though.
