I've heard of a website you can put the start of your story on! What website is it?

So my daughter loves writing, to encourage her I though about maybe putting some of her stories online. I heard there is a website you can out the first few chapters on and some people actually get 'found' and then can sell their full stories from there. Anyone heard of a website like this?

Is this something children could do?

Not really. There are some writers out there who've been discovered in this way but it's very rare and even less likely for a child.

The reason is that those with any power...ie. agents and publishers simply don't need to trawl the internet for talent. It's brought to them.

The best thing you can do is to keep encouraging her and to root out good competitions for her to enter.

The best ones are those which don't charge a fee.

Here's Jacqueline Wilson's annual competition for instance...there are always lots of great competitions about. BBC does one I think.

Look for competitions linked to organisations or people you recognise.

Thank you for the advice. I will find some competitions for her to enter Grin

There are lots of sites where you can post your work, but it's highly unlikely that any of them would now lead to publication and success. If she wants to try any of these sites (and please don't put her work up there for her if she hasn't already said it would be fine for you to do so) then Wattpad is probably the best one to try, but make sure you all understand that once it's up there most publishers won't be interested in it, as it will have already been published via Wattpad.
